Review Galaxy S10 Lite: analysis and opinion
“Without claims for owners of magazines, goes to what is practical and convinces us with all their equipment. You’ll like it if you are willing to forgo some features.”
- Slender design and looks premium
- Night mode could be improved
- Without water resistance
- Without 5G
- Without wireless charging
The surname Lite gives the idea of a more affordable device. But that does not necessarily mean that it is a cheap model. Galaxy S10 Lite is an example of this: it reduces some of the specs to lower the price, wrapped in a chassis with a sleek aesthetic and conservative. Is a phone with good benefits in general and some of the needs that you have to take into account.
Design and display
Galaxy S10 Lite is one of the most mobile light that we have analyzed. The 186 grams (6.56 oz) of weight design and a very thin (162.5 x 75.6 x 8.1 mm) –without bending the sides– resulting in a device extremely comfortable in the hand, despite its display of 6.7-inch.
At the rear, is dressed in plastic blue color, something that helps us to reduce the price of the Galaxy S20. Even so, his appearance in this tone is a premium and, at the same time, discreet. If you are one of those who hate the marks of fingerprints, in this case also remain attached, but are not noticed as much as other teams. In this rear area, the smartphone is not left out of the trend of camera modules square or rectangular, and has three lenses.
The screen FHD+ (2,400 × 1,080 p), with 394 dpi, technology Super AMOLED Plus, and a few bezels to a minimum, stands out for its brightness and vividness of colors (at the expense of saturating them, which helps to beautify all that shows, and we like it because it is not an excessive change). If you prefer colours that are more realistic, select the Natural mode in Settings/Display/screen Mode.
Moreover, it is a phone very much in the line of others, all with volume adjustment and power button to the right, the USB-a port C in the lower part and the slot for the cards on the left side. Not carrying a jack connector of 3.5 mm, something that should not be a problem, because, instead of a sleeve, the box includes a headset (headphones) with USB-C.
Performance, battery and load
By the processor, a Snapdragon 855 (the same as that of the Google Pixel 4 XL and the Galaxy Note 10 Plus), RAM of 8 GB and the price, this phone falls in the range high-low. This chip is not the most advanced in this category, was replaced by the 865 which include many of the mobile star launched in 2020, as the Galaxy S20, Motorola Edge Plus, OnePlus 8 and many more. You do not have the most advanced and, however, we were surprised at the fluency and the speed with which it performs all of the tasks. The 128 GB of storage give you for lots of content, and the best thing is that if you need more, you put a memory card and increase up to 1 TB (maximum).
In principle, you should be quiet if you need autonomy for a working day with heavy use. In our analysis, with close to ten hours of video playback spread over two days, combined with web navigation and capture photos, we have been given to more a little over two full days (without turning it off for the night). And that your battery is not of the highest capacity (4,500 mAh).
In fast charging also behaves as you would expect in a phone with a hefty price. With a charger of 25 W, you get half of the autonomy in about 25 minutes, a time that is not of the best, of course, and that does not mean that stand out. Fully loaded in an average of 65 minutes, and is very good, although you can find a similar speed on some mobile phones of the mid-range more affordable. Among them, Realme 6 and Redmi Note, 9 Pro, both with prices under 300 euros.
The three lenses of the phone is photographed with a wide angle of 48 megapixels (and stabilizer Super Steady), an ultra wide-angle 12-megapixel camera and a macro lens of 5 megapixels. It is true that, in terms of megapixels, does not stand out, and it also doesn’t matter. Takes pictures of very good quality. The selfies yes aims high in resolution with 32 megapixels (and also complies with what you’d expect in a mobile phone with a hefty price).
Perhaps the weakest of this camera is the night mode. In the scenes with some lighting fits well, and the result is acceptable. Without light, unlike other phones, it does not illuminate so much as to take a decent photo. The macro function, without being the best, you get your goal provided that you respect the recommended distance (between 3 and 5 cm), which determines the size of the details to capture (to a size not very large).
In regard to the zoom, Samsung has opted for a maximum of 8x, a number of increases under other cameras but that performs well. So you can apply less and more: we say it because it is useless to put 10x or more and then the images are blurry. With the maximum of 8x gives the size in photos, but when it is applied in video mode, do not maintain this quality and does not focus with sharpness.
If you like to take creative photos with the bokeh effect, the focus mode dynamic (equivalent to portrait mode in other phones) comes with several blur default and with a bar for you to choose the degree of background blur. In the selfies, it allows you to select the blur even after you take the photo, and also with the possibility to change the color to black-and-white.
Android-based 10, and One UI 2.1 is one of the layers that we like for its amount of detail. Among them, the possibility of creating a small pop-up window with the icons of calls to be able to use the screen while you talk; view the contents of the phone on the computer by simply pressing the Connection button to the Windows; and the Music button Share to connect with the speaker someone and share your music with a simple push. In the camera, the option to switch from photo mode to video by pressing the same button several seconds, and the capture of bursts (or GIF) with just a swipe of the finger of this same button down.
With the same screen of the Galaxy S20 Plus , and just as lightweight, Galaxy S10 Lite will fit if you’re looking for a phone very manageable, with a great screen quality, a camera is remarkable and a good autonomy. If that is what you want from a phone, you’ll have to spend a 659 euros. For this price we expected the water resistance, because Samsung is the brand that more bet by this feature outside of the high-end.
Is a considerable amount, not within the reach of all the pockets, and it seems to be a little high if you compare it with other options with better features, at least on paper: for example, Realme X3 Superzoom (499 euros) and Realme X50 Pro 5G in the version of 8 GB and 128 GB (599 euros). Especially this chinese manufacturer is setting the bar very high for the competitors to conquer the users outside of the asian giant, while Samsung takes a lot of ground tour and there will be those who prefer what they already know and have grown accustomed to using.
