For the first time, Sony and PlayStation will not be presented in the convention E3

The annual convention of games Electronic Entertainment Expo, known as E3, has changed quite a bit over the years, but one constant has been the Sony brand and PlayStation. Normally, the conference of PlayStation is the latest and most relevant the event. However, we will not see Sony at all in 2019.

In an interview with Game Informer, a spokesperson for Sony explained that it will not be present at E3, and that they now have a focus on search for creative opportunities to involve the community. “PlayStation fans are incredibly important to us, and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight players,” said Sony. “As a result, we have decided not to participate in the E3 in 2019”.

This is not the first time that Sony has changed their plans of events recently, or at least did not as expected by the fans. There is an event of PlayStation Experience in 2018 after of which took place in the last few years, mainly because Sony has already released many of their games announced for the PS4. They are still on the horizon Dreams, Death Stranding, The Last of Us: Part II, Days Gone, and a Ghost of Tsushima, but Days Gone be released before E3, and it is possible that one or two more games will follow their example.

In recent years, some other companies have stopped attending the press conferences of E3, or have dropped out of the event completely. For example, Nintendo now organizes events, pre-recorded Nintendo Direct, and EA runs its own event EA Play just before the E3.

If Microsoft decides to announce the next Xbox before Sony, the E3 certainly seems to be the perfect time to do so. Phil Spencer hinted at this last E3 that their team was working on new hardware, although it seems unlikely to be released in 2019. We have also heard several rumors about the PlayStation 5, even though its official name was not yet confirmed.

However, when Sony announces their next console, it could be the last time that the company to do so. According to the ceo of Ubisoft, Yves Guillemot, the industry will only have one more generation of consoles before moving on to devices only enabled for streaming. Even so, with the PS4 selling as good as now, we’re not so sure that we will see the end of consoles.
