BETTER CHECK YOUR FRIDGE IN JULY
Perhaps the finding most interesting is that it is more likely that your refrigerator is averíe in July. The biggest problem is that the fridge is not cooling properly. Other problems that the technicians have reported in July include the breaking of the ice machine or the appliance has leaks. July tends to be quite hot, and your fridge has to work much harder than a normal day of October.
“The refrigerator needs to maintain its internal temperature constant, and on hot days he works more hard to achieve. That puts stress on the compressor, which is the mechanism with which the cooler really cools down everything,” explains James Granado, Manager of Repair Appliances-Puls. “If the compressor breaks down or stops working, the refrigerator will not cool properly. The people also used the ice machine of the refrigerator more often during the summer for cold drinks or to fill the refrigerators.”
Puls did not find a similar correlation between time of year and the time in which a device is broken to the rest of the products mentioned in the report. Granado warns: “One thing that people don’t think really is that there are more storms during the summer and that these can cause an electrical surge that will burn out the control panel of any type of appliance. If this happens, it usually will require that a repair technician come to fix it.”
WHAT DEVICE WILL COST MORE TO REPAIR?
There are many variables that enter in the repair of an appliance. The type of repair needed, the parts, the brand and the model are all that is considered. The report evaluates the general repairs of the different equipment. In general, the company found that a freezer is the most expensive item to repair, with an average cost of $348 usd. A microwave is on the other end of the spectrum, and their repair costs average $195 dollars. For that money, you can buy a new model (unless it is installed in the kitchen).
The report does not mention if the product broke down during or after the warranty period. There are several guarantees that you can buy over the useful life of an appliance. However, in the ten years that Granado takes repairing appliances, he says that the parts tend to break two or three years after you bought the device.
According to the report, the repair costs also vary from city to city. If you think that New York tops that list, you’re wrong. You will be surprised to find out that it is more expensive to repair appliances both in Philadelphia ($260 dollars) and in Washington, D. C. ($245 dollars). Dallas is the most affordable with an average cost of repair of $207 dollars. This information will also vary according to the place where you live, as well as the appliance that need repair.
“Although we report averages in the report, the cost of the repair varies greatly depending on the brand and the model,” added Granado. “If you buy a refrigerator for $3,000, the replacement compressor could cost around $600 dollars. While, for a cooler more affordable, the repair would be less costly”.
