A bug in Android TV shows other users accounts

A user of Android TV of Chennai, India, has made a startling realization. While checking the settings on your Vu TV based on Android TV through its application Google Home, he noticed that the section “linked Accounts” showed a lot more linked accounts of what one would normally expect. Despite the fact that it is difficult to see how many accounts had been based on the recording that he did of his screen, the amount of accounts that are listed in the list could be hundreds or thousands.

What is most disturbing is that these same accounts were available to him when he entered the mode setup environment of Android TV and then jumped to the Photo option of Google. Each one had a switch-selectable, and could be switched on or off. There is No evidence that he has been able to actually see the photos that belong to these other holders of Google accounts, which may mean that the fault not came to reveal private photos of a account of Android TV to another. Even so, it is a little worrying.

We made our own check to see if we could replicate the error, but our application Google Home, which is connected to a tv, Nvidia Shield with the latest version of Android TV showed nothing out of the ordinary. For its part, Google has already dedicated resources to track the source of the mysterious error of the linked account, and tells the original user that “we want to let you know that we are investigating this.” We take very seriously any report like this, so in the meantime we’re disabling Google Photos for Android TV and the ability to issue remotely through the Google Assistant “.

It is also possible that the error is a localized problem. As the list of accounts linked to moves by the video posted by @wothadei, a significant number seem to have names indians.

Officially announced in June 2014, Android TV is the version based on Google TV of its popular mobile operating system. Although there has only been few reports of safety problems, the devices with Android TV have access to the Google Play Store to download applications, games and other content. This online store has been the subject of several security problems in the past, which forced Google to take special measures to boost the confidence of the users. One of those measures was to introduce Google Play Protect, that the company credited in part with the removal of more than 700,000 “potentially harmful applications” or PHA.
