A pot of electric pressure is much more than a simple pot. Serves for cooking rice, preparing yogurt, egg cooker, make bread, and even cakes, among many other delicious recipes. One of the most popular alternatives is the Instant Pot, known colloquially as the Instapot. And although at first sight it may seem intimidating, don’t be fooled by all of their buttons, since that is easier to use than you might imagine.
What is pressure cooking
The primary function of most of the models Instant Pot is pressure cooking, which is what gives it its versatility. But, what exactly is pressure-cooking ? It is a method of food preparation within a pot with liquid, using heat to create steam, which increases the pressure of the container. The device grabs or releases steam to control the pressure level. With more pressure, the boiling point of the liquid increases and food is cooked faster at a higher temperature. Pressure cooking retains flavours and nutrients of the food, saves energy and gives you results much more delicious.
How to set up
|Button||Pressure adjustment||Cooking time|
|Slow cooking||Normal||4 hours|
|Pressure||Low or high||Manual|
|Stew meat||High||35 minutes|
|Beans / Chile||High||30 minutes|
|Manual||The default value is high (can be adjusted)||Manual|
|Adjust||N / A||N / A|
|Minute hand||N / A||Manual|
|Keep warm / cancel||N / A||–|
With all the buttons for different programs, the front part of your Instant Pot can seem quite complicated. But once you understand what they are used for, everything becomes much more simple. Basically, each button indicating a cooking method is different, a preset time and level of pressure.
Under the column of pressure levels, you’ll see “High” or “Low” and “Normal”. In some models, you will only have a button to adjust the settings, what you’ll see on the screen. If you go with the levels “High” or “Low”, the Instant Pot always cook to pressure, but to a greater or lesser intensity. Only the “Normal” setting allows you to use it as a common pot and current.
In terms of cooking times, some recipes come with gaps pre-set, but others force you to manually enter how many minutes you want to last the cooking process. Setting Keep warm will automatically be activated when you’re done cooking.
How to release the pressure
There are two methods to release the pressure the Instant Pot safely: the natural and the quick release. The natural release allows the pressure to dissipate by itself slowly, despresurizándose as it releases heat from the metal parts. This process can take between 10 and 30 minutes, depending on the amount of liquid you have in the pot. Recipes with more liquid will take longer to despresurizarse. This alternative allows the food to remain intact, as there is less motion in the interior. It is better for dishes with a lot of liquid. According to Instant Pot, to speed up the process, you can put a cool towel on the metal part of the lid.
To use the method of quick release, you can manually rotate the valve steam release to “Venting”. This cools the pan faster and it only takes 1 or 2 minutes to despresurizarse fully. The company believes that the handle of the steam release is a fail-safe mechanism to allow the steam to escape quickly from the pot. The method of quick release is ideal for food such as salmon and crab, you don’t want to cook for a long time, or vegetables such as broccoli and chinese cabbage (bok choy), cooked quickly. However, this option is not recommended for recipes with a high content of starch.
It is crucial that you wait until they release all of the steam out of the Instant Pot before removing the lid. Never attempt to open it prior to the completion of depressurization, as this can be very dangerous.
How to clean a pressure cooker electric
Maintain in good condition a pot of electrical pressure is relatively easy in comparison to other appliances in your kitchen. For daily cleaning, just wash the vessel and clean the exterior housing. If not you seal properly your pot during the cooking process, you will probably need a deeper cleaning. Remove the sealing ring of silicone to remove all the waste. Other small parts, such as the handle of the steam release, the guard-lock or the float valve can accumulate fat over time, so review them periodically to remove any residue. Also check the handle and the edges, to make sure that there is no trapped dirt.
