Let’s be christian: the number of Iidentification of Eequipment Macross International, commonly known as IEMS, there is more to that code that uniquely identifies your phone, something like identification document that you hand in your country of residence. The big question is: do you know how to check the IMEI number of a phone? If your answer is negative, do not worry at all and keep on reading.
First, it is important that you know your IMEI number must be 15 digits and can also be used to verify various bits of information, such as country of origin, the manufacturer and the model number.
You can also use it to check the history of a device and find out if it is ever reported as stolen through services like CheckMend. Fortunately, there are several ways (and very easy) to check the IMEI number of a phone and here you’re going to explain all of them.
Before you begin, keep in mind that —almost like the keys of your credit card— you should never share your IMEI number publicly. For this reason, the IMEI numbers in the following screenshots have been touched up.
Using a phone dialer
The universal method to verify your IMEI number —formula that will operate on both iPhone, Android and others— is to open the dial number for your phone (as if you were to call) and dial the following: * # 06 #
At the moment a popup box will appear with your IMEI code. You can copy the number and then tap Close or OK to close the box.
On an Android phone
On an Android phone, you can also find the IMEI in the settings menu. Generally, this will be in:
Settings> About phone> Status
Depending on the model, you can also find it in:
Settings> About device> Status
And there you will find, in Information of IMEI
On an iPhone
It is very easy to find the IMEI of your iPhone. Just go to:
Settings> General> About
Scroll down and look for the entrance IMEI in the list. Also you can press and hold the number to copy it to the clipboard and then paste it in another place.
Other ways to check the IMEI number
Some devices, like the iPhone 6S and other later models, they show the IMEI on the SIM tray. Some phones, like the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, show your IMEI on the back. Older phones and batteries that are removable, often provided the IMEI under the battery, usually at the top of the SIM slot.
How to check the IMEI if you lost the phone
If they stole your phone iPhone or Android and you forgot to check and note down the IMEI number, there is still the possibility that you can find it. If you saved the box in which it was when you bought it, there is the chance that you will find a sticker on the outside that detail your IMEI number.
