“We will see what says the review of data in the morning, but this may have been a configuration error of test”, those were the words of the CEO of SpaceX, Elon Musk, after verifying that a third prototype of his spaceship Starship exploded in Boca Chica, Texas.
The test vehicle is collapsed, and then fell in on itself after having been filled with a propellant, super cold, causing the reaction that you can see in the video below.
This third prototype then ruled in what is called the test cryogenic, that is designed to simulate the pressures that the spacecraft would encounter during a test flight.
This is not the first time that this happens to SpaceX, already in march also a vehicle exploded during a similar test and something very similar happened in October 2019.
According to Musk, the problem also could be caused by looseness of a few exhaust valves in a test previous to the explosion.
Despite this setback and all that has been before, Space X now is developing a hardware that allows to have better guarantees for the missions of Starship.
It is worth noting that, SpaceX has also been successful in its development program, including a prototype test of subscale “Starhopper”, which showed the basic performance of engines Raptor that SpaceX is using to drive the spacecraft, and, eventually, its reinforcement Super Heavy.
The valuable addition is that Elon Musk wanted to place the labor force of SpaceX in helping the pandemic of the coronavirus, that is why it is committed along with Tesla in the development of alcohol gel for medical supplies, and surgical masks N95 for the protection of the authorities of the hospitals.
Even Musk was beyond the united States and provided aid to all countries in the world that need more fans.
“We have respirators surplus approved by the FDA. We will send it to hospitals around the world within the regions of delivery of Tesla. The device and the shipping are free. The only requirement is that the respirators are needed immediately for patients, not to be saved in a store. Please, contact with me or with Tesla”.
